The Department of Energy’s Joint Bioenergy Institute (JBEI) Chief Executive Officer, Jay Keasling, has announced that Aindrila Mukhopadhyay will step into the role of Vice President of the Fuels Synthesis Division. This announcement comes after a national search and interview process. Mukhopadhyay, who joined the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) in 2003, will continue to serve as Director of JBEI’s Host Engineering group and as Interim Division Director of Berkeley Lab’s Biological Systems and Engineering (BSE) in the Biosciences Area.
Keasling Wins Israel’s Top Prize in Alternative Fuels
Jay Keasling, Associate Laboratory Director for Biosciences and CEO of the Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI), has been named by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a winner of this year’s Eric and Sheila Samson Prime Minister’s Prize for Innovation in Alternative Fuels for Transportation.
JBEI Joins Elite 100/500 Club
The Joint Bioenergy Institute (JBEI) is now a member of the elite “100/500 Club,” having filed its 100th patent application and published its 500th scientific paper. A DOE Bioenergy Research Center led by Berkeley Lab, JBEI’s main mission is to accelerate the development of advanced, next-generation biofuels.
Joint BioEnergy Institute Names New Chief Science and Technology Officer
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI) CEO Jay Keasling announced that Blake Simmons would be stepping into the role of Chief Science and Technology Officer (CSTO). Simmons, who joined JBEI in 2006 as Vice President for one of its divisions, continues to be Senior Manager of the Biofuels & Biomaterials Science and Technology Department at Sandia National Laboratories.
