Molecular Biophysics and Integrated Bioimaging Division Leadership Changes

January 17, 2023

Molecular Biophysics and Integrated Bioimaging (MBIB) interim Division Director Junko Yano announced a change in leadership of the Cellular and Tissue Imaging (CTI) Department, effective January 1, 2023.

Carolyn Larabell

Carolyn Larabell is stepping down as the Department Head, a position she has served in since July 2020. She will continue to be a member of the MBIB management team, serving as senior advisor to the Division Director. Larabell holds a joint position as a professor at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and a senior faculty scientist in MBIB. She also directs the National Center for X-ray Tomography at the Advanced Light Source, which develops novel imaging technologies for biological and biomedical research. Yano thanked Larabell for her ongoing service to the Division, noting that her long-standing relationships with DOE’s Office of Biological and Environmental Research and the National Institutes of Health are great resources for MBIB.

Suzanne Baker

Suzanne Baker, a staff scientist whose research focuses on the methodology behind PET imaging and pharmacokinetic modeling applied to research in aging and dementia, has enthusiastically agreed to serve as the new CTI Department Head. She joined Bill Jagust’s group at Berkeley Lab in 2005 and—in her free time—enjoys swimming, hiking, and camping. Yano expressed excitement at the prospect of tapping Baker’s passion and new ideas for managing the Division and extending them to Lab-wide activities.
