The FY2021 Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) process has now been initiated (see email from Mike Witherell dated 01/02/2020). There will be Area-wide and Early Career tracks; the Lab-wide Initiative Track has been suspended for FY2021. Please see a description of these tracks here and the FY2021 Bioscience Area priorities here. The highest ranking proposal submitted by an Early Career researcher (i.e., within 10 years of PhD) will be recommended for funding as the Area’s selection for the Early Career track. Candidates at all levels of their career are encouraged to apply for LDRD funding.
This is a highly competitive process. Therefore, we are seeking high-quality and high-impact proposals. An important consideration for LDRD submissions are opportunities for synergy, building new capabilities/areas of research, potential for future funding, and for Area proposals, linkage to the Biosciences Strategic Plan.
The process for development and review LDRD proposals is attached. Please contact Nikki Humphreys or your Division/Facility Director if you have questions prior to your submission of a pre-proposal.
