Faculty biochemist Jennifer Doudna and Biosciences Area Associate Laboratory Director Jay Keasling attended the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, last week, to bring their unique perspectives to world leaders. Both researchers were named to Al Aribya’s “45 top scientists at Davos you should know about” list.
Simmons Named Division Director for Biological Systems and Engineering
Jay Keasling, Associate Laboratory Director for Biosciences, announced that Blake Simmons has accepted the position of Division Director for Biological Systems and Engineering (BSE) effective February 10, 2016. He will retain his positions as Chief Scientific and Technology Officer and as the Vice President of the Deconstruction Division at the Joint BioEnergy Institute.
Maxon Testifies Before House Subcommittee on Research & Technology
The Dec. 8 U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee hearing looked at “The Future of Biotechnology: Solutions for Energy, Agriculture and Manufacturing.” Witnesses, including Biosciences Principal Deputy Mary Maxon, provided an overview of new and emerging technologies, their current and potential applications, and the role of the federal government in funding and regulation.
