Several Biosciences Area personnel are among the 2023 Berkeley Lab Director’s Awards honorees. This annual program recognizes outstanding contributions by employees to all facets of Lab activities. From the Molecular to the Mesoscale: The EcoPOD Provides A New Way to Link Plants, Soil, and Microbes
On May 25, Berkeley Lab and Biosciences Area leadership officially welcomed the EcoPOD to its home at Potter Street in West Berkeley. The Lab’s Deputy Director for Research Horst Simon and Associate Laboratory Director for Biosciences Mary Maxon opened the doors of the EcoPOD after Maxon cut the ceremonial ribbon.
New EGSB Leadership Announced
N. Louise Glass, director of the Environmental Genomics & Systems Biology (EGSB) Division, announced new leadership as of October 1, 2018. Changes were implemented to diversify perspectives and ideas within the management of the Division. Ben Brown and Henrik Scheller have agreed to take on positions as Division co-deputies for science; Tanja Woyke and Chris Mungall will now serve as department heads of Functional Genomics and Molecular Ecosystems Biology, respectively.
Welcome Biosciences’ New Deputy of Operations, Nikki Humphreys
As Biosciences ALD Mary Maxon announced last week, Nikki Humphreys has accepted an offer to become the Biosciences Area Deputy of Operations. In addition to overseeing operations and finance for the Area, she will serve as the Deputy for Operations of the Biosciences Operations at Berkeley Center, and the Molecular Biophysics and Integrated Bioimaging (MBIB) and Environmental Genomics and Systems Biology (EGSB) Divisions.
