The Biosciences 10-year Scientific Strategic Plan, which envisions the future of technology development, biological research, and organizational stewardship for the Area, has been released. The plan represents short- and long-term goals to transform biological research with technological innovations that will be applied to Area research strategies in energy, environment, and human health. The strategic plan also describes organizational stewardship goals to invest in people and manage Area resources.
Katy Christiansen Named Biosciences Area Deputy for Science
ALD for Biosciences Paul Adams has appointed Katy Christiansen to the role of Area Deputy for Science following a national search. Christiansen, who has served as Interim Area Deputy since 2021, will work with Adams to support the Biosciences Area’s scientific mission and be responsible for helping to plan and execute our long-range strategy.
Report from Second Plant Single-cell Solutions for Energy and the Environment Workshop Available
On April 29, 2021, Berkeley Lab hosted a second workshop to identify the most pressing barriers to wider adoption of single-cell sequencing and omics technologies, and to discuss solutions to remedy those barriers in order to drive discovery. The workshop report is now available for download.
Christiansen to Assume Interim Area Deputy Role
Paul Adams, Director of the Molecular Biophysics and Integrated Bioimaging Division, has announced that Katy Christiansen will assume the role of Interim Area Deputy while he is serving as Associate Laboratory Director (ALD) for the next year. Effective August 23, Christiansen will work with Adams to support the Area’s scientific mission and be responsible for helping to plan and execute the long-range strategy of the Biosciences Area.
Maxon Announces New Program Development Group
Mary Maxon, Associate Laboratory Director for Biosciences, announces that a Strategic Programs Development Group (SPDG) has been established in the Biosciences Area at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab). The group will be led by Katy Christiansen, who has been with the Area for six years in a strategic planning and program development capacity.
