The EGSB Division Organizing Committee leads team building activities, participates in panel presentations, and encourages job development and outreach efforts.


Katrina King, a member of the EGSB organizing committee, led an activity to promote teamwork and communication for the attendees of the EGSB Annual Meeting in May 2024.


EcoFAB 2.0 devices are being used in multiple outreach activities, both at the high school and community college level. Students have been participants in the Berkeley Lab Director’s Apprenticeship Program or involved in courses at their home institutions.

Cat Adams, currently a biologist research scientist, combined her love for fungi with her passion for science communications in a February 2024 Exploratorium After Dark event. The community event featured mushroom-based dishes from the museum’s Seaglass Restaurant paired with a science talk from Adams and Exploratorium scientist Julie Yu.

Postdoctoral researcher Veronica Escalante represented the m-CAFEs Science Focus Area in the 2024 BioEPIC Research Slam. During a 3-minute talk geared toward a general audience, she presented her quest to understand the influence of aromatic acids on plant-microbe interactions, coming in First Runner-up in the competition.
