The ABPDU’s Scale-Up Facilities Expo took place on Aug. 7, 2023, bringing together scale-up facilities and startup researchers. The all-day event saw 249 attendees from 29 countries attend 32 facility presentations, giving them the opportunity to learn about a variety of scale-up capabilities beyond those available at the ABPDU. 

The Agile BioFoundry (ABF), supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO), announced the selection of five external collaborations totaling over $3 million to conduct research and development needed to accelerate the U.S. biomanufacturing sector. 

The awardees will collaborate with scientists from the ABF consortium, leveraging DOE national laboratory capabilities to address challenges in biomanufacturing.

To help accelerate innovation and develop new biomanufacturing approaches, three new projects were selected for funding from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). 

Through the funding opportunity titled, “Accelerating Innovations in Biomanufacturing Approaches through Collaboration Between NSF and the DOE BETO-funded Agile BioFoundry (ABF), researchers will collaborate with the ABF consortium’s synthetic and bioengineering research projects.

The Agile BioFoundry (ABF) hosted its 2023 Industry Listening Day on July 31, 2023. ABF staff shared updates on the consortium’s latest research, partnership opportunities, and the ABF’s future direction. 

The event provided an opportunity for 50+ attendees from industry and academia to provide feedback on ABF’s activities and suggestions on how it can better serve the biomanufacturing community.

The scientific and national security communities have long shared an unmet need for a tool capable of quickly and reliably distinguishing genetically modified organisms from naturally occurring ones. Over the course of a six-year program funded by the United States Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA), several techniques were developed and refined. Biosciences Area researchers led testing and evaluation of these technologies, designing and producing biological samples of increasing complexity to assess how well the tools performed.
