ABPDU Featured in New Cyclotron Road Video
The Advanced Biofuels Process Demonstration Unit (ABPDU) is featured in the new Cyclotron Road video. Cyclotron Road located at Berkeley Lab is a home for top entrepreneurial researchers to advance technologies until they can succeed beyond the research lab. The Visolis project led by Deepak Dugar which aims at the bio-based production of carbon-negative, high-performance polymers, proved its process at ABPDU’s 300 liter scale fermenters. Bissell Honored with Medals from Two Societies for Outstanding Achievements
The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) is honoring Mina Bissell, Distinguished Scientist in the Biological Systems & Engineering Division, for her lifetime contributions to cell biology. In recognition of her key discovery that the role of the tumor microenvironment plays a part in the development of breast cancer, Bissell will receive their highest scientific honor, the E.B. Wilson Medal, at the ASCB Annual Meeting in San Francisco this December. This latest accolade comes just months after Bissell received the 2015 STS/CSS Honorary Medal from the Signal Transduction Society (STS) and the STS Journal Cell Communication and Signaling (CSS) in…

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk Visits JBEI
The Joint Bioenergy Institute (JBEI) welcomed the Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on June 4. Premier Palaszczuk visited the Bay Area with a contingent of almost 100 Queensland business, industry and community leaders who attended the BIO 2016 conference in San Francisco. During the visit to JBEI, Premier Palaszczuk was given an overview by JBEI’s CEO Jay Keasling on the institute’s mission and achievements which was followed by presentations on the collaborative projects between the University of Queensland, JBEI and the DOE Joint Genome Institute. JBEI Participated at Science Day Organized by CRS
JBEI’s Danny Tang volunteered on June 1 at the Science Day organized by the Community Resources for Science at a local Oakland elementary school. Danny partnered with Howard Matis, a Berkeley Lab Physicist to run an experiment about cosmic rays which involved custom built detectors. Danny and Howard saw three elementary classes and interacted with 90 students! The organizer of this event, Community Resources for Science, is a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting and engaging educators, students, and scientists in a vibrant and innovative web of science learning resources, transforming science education.
