The Biosciences Area partnered with Biotech Partners (BP) this summer by providing internships to 13 high school students. The mission of the non-profit Biotech Partners is to educate underserved youth in the Bay Area with personal, academic and professional development experiences that increase participation in higher education and access to fulfilling science careers.
The Biotech Partners interns from across the Bay area, 66 in total, presented their posters at a competition and celebration this past Saturday, August 13, at Berkeley High School.
There were two rounds of deliberations by the judges. After a first round of deliberations the judges narrowed it down to 16 finalists. Five Biosciences interns made it to the finalists round and for a second year in a row two students who interned at JBEI won awards. Ananda Brooks from the Feedstocks Division was awarded “Best Poster – Overall” and Emara Shabir, intern in the Fuels Synthesis Division, won “Most Educational Poster.” JBEI Communications and Outreach Manager Irina Silva was honored with the “Outstanding Partner Award.”
