Jay Keasling, Associate Laboratory Director for Biosciences, announced that Paul Adams has accepted the position of Division Director for Molecular Biophysics & Integrated Bioimaging (MBIB). Adams served as the MBIB Interim Division Director since the Biosciences Area re-organization took effect this past October 1 and has been instrumental in developing a strategic plan and leading the effort to launch the Division.
Adams earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and completed his post-doctoral training at Yale University before joining Berkeley Lab in 1999. Over his sixteen year career at Berkeley Lab, Paul has emerged as an international leader in structural biology and X-ray crystallography, leading an active experimental research program and developing novel computational methods for macromolecular structure determination.
Adams will continue to serve as Division Deputy for Biosciences at the Advanced Light Source, Vice President for Technology and Director of Structural Biology at the Joint BioEnergy Institute, Laboratory Research Manager for the ENIGMA Science Focus Area, and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley.
