As Joint Genome Institute (JGI) Director Nigel Mouncey and Biological Systems and Engineering (BSE) Division Director Blake Simmons shared in their June 4 emails, Nick Everson will rejoin the JGI as Deputy for Operations starting on July 1. He will succeed Ray Turner, who will retire from Berkeley Lab on June 29.
Nick has been serving as Operations Deputy for BSE since 2015 and Chief Operating Officer for the Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI) since 2014. During his tenure he has implemented improvements to the Operations Structure in BSE and increased efficiency and transparency in all aspects of operations at Emery Station East. He also played a key role in the successful JBEI renewal process and has been a tireless champion for diversity and inclusion at the Lab.
Nick began work at Berkeley Lab as the Business Manager for the JGI in 2007 and received his MBA from the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business while there. He then spent 2.5 years as the Deputy Director for Operations in the Materials Sciences Division.
An interim Deputy for Operations for BSE will be named to help manage the transition with minimal impacts while a nationwide search is conducted to hire Nick’s replacement. Stay tuned for more information as the transition plan becomes clearer.
