Aindrila Mukhopadhyay, Science Deputy for the Biological Systems and Engineering Division and Vice President for Biofuels and Bioproducts at the Joint BioEnergy Institute, has been elected to the 2025 Class of American Academy of Microbiology fellows.
Mukhopadhyay specializes in using functional genomics and systems biology to engineer microbes for bioproduction, and to study signaling and mobile genetic elements in environmental microbes.

The Academy, the honorific leadership group of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), elects 65 fellows annually through a peer-review process based on scientific achievements and advancements in the field of microbial sciences. Established in 1970, the Academy is composed of over 2,600 from around the world who represent an array of microbiology subspecialties.
