To provide broad plant genomic capabilities, the DOE Joint Genome Institute works in partnership with the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, which specializes in genome improvement for plants. As part of that partnership, the JGI and HudsonAlpha researchers led a team that recently published work on the JGI Plant Gene Atlas in Nucleic Acids Research.
The project spans 15 years and involves more than 17 research groups. The team set out to characterize the transcriptome – the complete set of RNA molecules transcribed from all the genes within a cell or tissue at a specific time or under specific conditions – in over a dozen plants.
