Biological Systems and Engineering (BSE) Division Science Deputy Aindrila Mukhopadhyay, was elected to the 2022 class of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellows. Founded in 1848, AAAS is the world’s largest general scientific society. This lifetime honor, which follows a nomination and review process, recognizes scientists, engineers, and innovators for their distinguished achievements toward the advancement or applications of science.
Mukhopadhyay, who is also Vice President for Biofuels and Bioproducts at the Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI), was recognized for her “exceptional contributions to the field of microbial engineering for the sustainable production of biofuels and bioproducts, particularly in optimizing and using functional genomics approaches.” In all, 506 new Fellows were announced, including six total from Berkeley Lab. They will be inducted in a ceremony held during the AAAS Annual Meeting in early March.
