Holger Mueller, a faculty scientist in the Molecular Biophysics and Integrated Bioimaging (MBIB) Division, has received a grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) to develop next-generation electron microscopy technology to visualize the inner workings of cells at near-atomic resolution. Mueller’s project, Laser Phase Contrast in Cryo-EM for Visual Proteomics at Atomic Resolution, was one of 14 funded by CZI, whose overall investment under the Visual Proteomics initiative is nearly $28 million.
“Obtaining high-resolution views of proteins in their cellular environment is a key step to gaining a better understanding of how cells function in normal and diseased states and to creating more effective therapies,” said CZI Head of Science Cori Bargmann.
