The Biosciences Area partnered once again with Biotech Partners to provide paid summer internships to high school students. This year seven high school students worked side by side with Biosciences researchers across the Area’s laboratories. The mission of the non-profit Biotech Partners is to educate underserved youth in the Bay Area with personal, academic and professional development experiences that increase participation in higher education and access to fulfilling science careers.
This past Saturday, August 11, 70 Biotech Partners interns presented their posters at ‘BRAVO!’, the Biotech Partners end of summer celebration and poster competition. Three Biosciences interns made it to the finalists round of the poster competition. Mitzy Rubio from the Biological Systems and Engineering (BSE) Division received an honorable mention for “Most Creative Poster” and Raven Young from the Joint Genome Institute (JGI) received an honorable mention for “Best Oral Presentation”.
