The FY18 Lab-wide Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) Initiative Advanced Biogenics Chemicals and Materials (formerly Beyond Petrochemicals) workshop is scheduled for Thursday, February 16, from 2-5 PM in the Building 50 Auditorium. The program will include short presentations, discussion, and a chance for networking. Researchers who are interested in this topic are encouraged to register here and attend.
Advanced Biogenics Chemicals and Materials
Multi-disciplinary and multi-Area teams of researchers are encouraged to propose projects at the interfaces of chemistry, materials, biology, and computing for the development of new materials and chemicals that outperform existing materials and chemicals, and that are environmentally friendly in both production and use. Of particular interest are proposals for approaches to novel materials/chemicals with new properties (e.g. high melt temperature, high conductivity, etc.) where computer-assisted designs of the materials predict the monomers or composite parts that would impart those desired properties. Proposers are encouraged to identify opportunities that combine computer assisted design with bio/chemical synthesis and characterization approaches for proof-of-concept materials/chemicals that validate the predictive capabilities of the research effort.
This workshop is hosted by the Biosciences Area, Computing Sciences Area, and Materials Sciences Division. Please send any questions regarding the workshop to Helen Cademartori.
More information about this and other LDRD opportunities can be found in the Call for Proposals.
