We study structure, function, and dynamics of trans-membrane efflux pumps related to multi-drug resistance in bacteria. Our goals are to control small-molecule efflux in bacteria, and to apply such capability in drug design and in biofuel production. I also develop computational methods to identify unknown small-molecule ligands in crystal structures as part of the Phenix crystallographic software project.
