Since the beginning of the Auer Lab in 2004, we have expanded our research portfolio and focus significantly, adding to our initial focus on the structural analysis of inner ear molecular machines a variety of other projects that fall into four main categories:
- Molecular mechanisms in cancer malignancy and metastasis with a focus on cell-cell adhesion patterns,
- Microbial communities (biofilms) including bioremediation, gliding motility, and the roles of vesicles in microbial communities,
- Bioenergy/biofuels including plant cell walls and lignocellulosic degradation, and
- Method development for correlative multiscale, multimodal imaging, including exploring several tag-based labeling approaches.
